Emma
Sher holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts
in Gold and Silversmithing (RMIT), and a Diploma of Engineering
Technology (Jewellery) (TAFE). She has been designing and manufacturing
jewellery for the past seven years. Emma has exhibited work both
nationally and internationally and was a finalist in the Kaiserman
Jewellery prize.
Emma’s starting point is the collection of materials and
objects that inspire her – organic, man-made, modern or
vintage. She uses precious and semi-precious stones, pearls, gold
and silver as core materials to create her jewellery. The focus
is on how the special combination of elements relate to each other,
and the way in which they can be transformed into a unique piece
of jewellery. Careful thought is given to the construction of
each piece and the way it sits on the body.
Emma uses the geometric imagery of the crystal system of gems,
along with facetted and flat stones, in a way that reveals their
brilliance and colour.
"I
hope that these pieces show my respect for the innate beauty of
these precious materials and my desire to create wearable contemporary
jewellery that gives pleasure to both the adorned and the observer."
