Although my training was in education and welfare, the urge to create has always been with me. I am easily transported to a place of calm and peace when working on the torch producing a piece of work, drawn to glass by its fluidity and complexity in its heated mode and its beauty and strength when cold and annealed.

I find inspiration in the world around me; the nature surrounding us, the beauty and quiet of the beach in winter, the non-frenetic pace of life lived on the Bass Coast is calming and conducive to a creative lifestyle.

Colour has always stimulated me and dictates the direction of a piece. I see myself first and foremost as a jeweller, not a beadmaker. I see the whole rather than the small components that make the whole, and have found that making my jewellery now satisfies all my creative needs.

Always expanding my knowledge, I have attended workshops run by some of the
most talented people in this field, these include Peter Minson and Carol Marando, arguably Australia's most artistic lampworkers.

The relationship between me and the artist-maker and the wearer of one of my pieces is of primary importance; it is a very personal and satisfying connection. I now identify less with the material and the techniques of my lampworking and more with living the life of an artist making pieces that fulfil my need to be creative.
