He
is now enjoying semi-retirement in Numinba NSW but still finds
some time to create his masterpieces.
Ian
has a great eye for detail, and his early rural living has greatly
influenced his creativity. The main focus of his work now shows
an awareness and need for the preservation of the Australian environment,
flora and fauna.
He
was commissioned to interpret the platypus logo of the Australian
Geographic Society in 3D by way of a brooch followed by a series
of similar
Wildlife icons. This series enjoyed widespread success worldwide
and his bronze platypus sculpture was featured in the magazine
for many years.
His
work also shows a wicked sense of humour, for example, his Paul’s
Pig series of brooches and rings.
Ian's Wombat, Fairy Penguin and Echidna range of jewellery display
his great attention to detail and a natural skill that he has
painstakingly developed over the past 40 years.
He is a self-taught artisan who has travelled the world to return
to his beloved Tweed Valley and enjoy a lifestyle that many would
envy.
