While
Jan works in a range of media, her preference is for Watercolour
Painting.
Jan
has travelled widely within Australia and overseas and this has
fuelled her passion for evocative landscape painting. Many journeys
into outback Australia and a holiday home in East Gippsland ensure
that these areas form a constant theme throughout her work. Jan’s
passion for landscape painting stems from her love of nature,
her love of being outdoors, bushwalking, canoeing and cross-country
skiing. Jan’s outback travels through the Kimberley, the
Simpson Desert, the Pilbara and Cape York Peninsula have provided
her with the opportunity to paint plein-air, and collect
invaluable resources for her studio work. Jan has strong family
ties in the Lakes Entrance area and spends extensive time in and
around this area. She is now sketching and painting in San Remo
and the Gallery takes great pleasure in presenting her work.
In
her Coastal Paintings, Jan delights in interpreting the light
on the water where reflections abound. In general she uses a broad
free brush technique, but is also able to cleverly identify the
finer points of detail in her landscapes. Jan enjoys drawing out
the often stark contrasts in colour and texture when painting
her boats. A key focal point of Jan’s work is the interplay
of light and shadow, and light, water and reflections. The influence
of the angle of the sun on the ambient light and its consequent
effect on subtlety of colour and intensity of colour are consistent
themes in her work.
Jan
is currently the Vice President of the Watercolour Society of
Victoria.
