Paul
Bott is inspired to create
very decorative and detailed objects d'art hoping to
equal the past masters of old, specialising in chains, bracelets
and padlocks. The appealing side of padlocks is they allow for
artistic expression yet still create a functional piece of art.
The history of padlocks over the centuries has been to keep items
of sentiment and value protected, including the chastity belt.
Paul's
country abode close to the historic town of Braidwood exudes the
ghosts of gold mining from the nineteenth century. Both rural
and goldmining have come to be part of his work. In keeping with
current forward thinking, Paul can produce pieces with minimal
carbon footprint by having a fully functional workshop powered
by the sun as well as reducing, reusing and recycling, which contributes
to establishing a sustainable future for an industry such as this.
As a fellow of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia, Paul
supports their endeavours to maintain a code of excellence.
